Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed criticism over his love for dancing, insisting that his recreational activities have no bearing on his performance as governor.
Adeleke made the remarks during the Arise Town Hall for Osun governorship candidates ahead of the state’s governorship election, where he was asked whether his frequent public displays of dancing had affected his administration.
The governor said he remained fully committed to his responsibilities, stressing that recreation and official duties could coexist.
According to Adeleke, dancing is simply one of his hobbies and does not prevent him from carrying out his duties effectively.
“Nobody can stop me from dancing. As I’m dancing, I’m working,” the governor said.
He added: “You need to see me when I am working. I can dance with you now, but when you come to my office, I’m a very serious and prudent person. There’s time for everything; there’s time to dance and there’s time to work.”
Adeleke also accused members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of criticising his dancing out of jealousy.
He joked that his critics were unhappy because they could not match his dancing skills, offering to teach them if they were interested.
“So, they are jealous because they don’t know how to dance. If they want, I will teach them how to dance, but that does not stop me from my work,” he said.
The governor, who is seeking another term in office, also criticised his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, claiming that the former governor had not fully recovered from his defeat in the previous governorship election.
Adeleke alleged that Oyetola’s relationship with President Bola Tinubu had contributed to political challenges in the state.
“Gboyega Oyetola is still suffering from the pain of defeat because he is a cousin to Mr President. He has caused a lot of problems in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
The governor maintained that his dancing should not be used as a measure of his effectiveness in office, stressing that it remained a personal hobby.
“Dancing is a hobby; it does not disturb or affect my work,” he said.
