The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State says it is currently reviewing the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, which was won by Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, before deciding on its next line of action.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said the declaration of a winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not signify the end of the electoral process, noting that aggrieved parties retain the right to challenge results through the courts.
The APC said its leadership was going through the results from all wards across the state and would consult its legal team before taking any further steps.
According to the party, the electoral process is not concluded at the point of voting and declaration of results, but extends to the tribunal and appellate courts where necessary.
Part of the statement read: “We are not unaware of the fact that election is a process which begins at the registration of the voters through the primary election to the election proper, which extends to the tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court.
“An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to enrich the nation’s jurisprudence as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026 as amended.”
The party added that it would explore all options available under the Electoral Act once it had concluded consultations with its lawyers.
APC commended its members and supporters in Osun for their loyalty and urged them not to be discouraged by the result declared by INEC, describing the current situation as temporary.
“It is necessary to assure our members and supporters to remain steadfast about the current situation and have it in mind that it is not over until it is over,” the statement added.
The party also appealed for calm among its supporters across the state, urging them to avoid reacting to any provocation from members of the ruling party.
“As a result of the foregoing, we are imploring our ever loyal members and supporters to remain calm while they carry on with their businesses and refuse to respond to any provocative action or inaction from any of the members of the ruling party across the state,” it said.
APC further called on the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, alleging that some of them had been harassed by opposition members since the announcement of the results.
The party expressed confidence that the outcome of the election would eventually become a mere chapter in the state’s political history.
