The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Osun State’s August 15 governorship election, Adebayo Adedamola, has denied filing a petition against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory, insisting neither he nor his lawyers initiated any such action.
His denial follows the display of petitions at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, among them one marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, reportedly filed in Adedamola’s name against Adeleke, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Accord Party.
Speaking to TVC on Monday, Adedamola said he was unaware of the petition and had given his lawyers no instruction to challenge the result.
“There’s no petition filed by me or my counsel. So, I don’t know where they manufactured the petition they submitted at the tribunal,” he said.
He added that he had received no communication from his lawyer or the party leadership about any plan to contest the outcome in court, and that no meeting had ever been held to decide on a post-election legal challenge.
Adedamola said his backing for Adeleke predated election day, recalling that the PDP had held a press conference on August 13 — two days before the poll — publicly endorsing the governor’s candidacy. He said he personally voted for Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party platform.
“I even voted for Governor Adeleke of the Accord party. Why would I now change today and be filing any petition against him?” he said.
