The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be collectively responsible if it fails to expel Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over his controversial call for supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
Fadahunsi had been captured in a viral video urging his supporters to kill any Accord Party member they come across ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Adebayo condemned the senator’s remarks and violent rhetoric in public discourse generally, insisting that leaders must be held to a higher standard of responsibility.
He called on the APC to take immediate disciplinary action against Fadahunsi, warning that inaction would implicate the entire party.
“What I think on a broader scale is that I condemn the statement credited to the Senator, and I condemn the general use of violence in public life,” Adebayo said.
“I expect the All Progressives Congress, APC, to expel Fadahunsi and any of these people. If they don’t, they are collectively responsible.”
On the role of law enforcement, Adebayo said the police should demonstrate action rather than make assurances.
“As for the police, they don’t need to tell us what they are doing. We just need to see the man in court. That is how we know that you are actually taking action,” he added.
