The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area have been freed.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, described the viral claims as false, misleading, and without any factual basis. The command urged members of the public to ignore the сообщения and rely only on verified information from official sources.
The statement specifically refuted reports alleging that abducted pupils and teachers from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities had been released by their captors.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the viral messages currently circulating across various social media platforms alleging that the pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area have been released,” the statement read. “The claim is false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated.”
The abduction incident, which occurred on May 15, involved over 40 schoolchildren and teachers taken during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele; and L.A. Primary School in the area. The attack sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for improved security in affected communities.
The command assured residents and families of the victims that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure the safe release of all abductees.
According to the police, all available human and operational resources are being deployed to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed and that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
Security operatives, the statement added, remain fully committed to the ongoing rescue mission while urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting operations.
Residents were also advised to depend strictly on official communications from the police and other authorised government agencies, as well as to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing security efforts.
