The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, days after they were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims regained their freedom during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) on Saturday evening.
Force Public Relations Officer, DSP Anthony Placid, disclosed the development in a statement issued late Saturday, revealing that the rescue operation followed intensive intelligence gathering and tactical surveillance by security operatives.
According to the police, Mrs. Adegoke and her twin sons were kidnapped on June 3, 2026, while she was taking the children to school in Ibadan at about 7:30 a.m.
Placid explained that investigators tracked the movements of the kidnappers through sustained intelligence operations, leading security agents to their location.
The operation eventually resulted in a fierce confrontation between the FID-IRT operatives and the kidnappers.
During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while police recovered two rifles from the criminals. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and psychological support.
“The hostages were rescued during a coordinated operation by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team in Ibadan at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026,” the statement said.
“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations. These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives.”
The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved in the mission for their courage, professionalism and dedication, noting that their efforts were crucial to the successful rescue of the victims.
The police also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation. Preliminary intelligence indicates that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds.
Security personnel have intensified manhunts across the area, with authorities determined to track down and prosecute all individuals connected to the crime.
The Nigeria Police Force thanked members of the public for their cooperation and patience throughout the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.
The force also assured Nigerians that it would continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies to protect lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.
