Support is steadily building in Somolu for the possible return of Hon. Abiodun Orekoya to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2027, as constituents urge him to seek another term based on his performance so far.
Many residents and community stakeholders have expressed satisfaction with his representation since assuming office in 2023, pointing to his legislative work, grassroots engagement, and focus on human capital development as key reasons for their endorsement.
A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Orekoya has played active roles in lawmaking, contributing to several key bills such as the Lagos State Administration of Civil Justice Bill (2023), the Local Government Administration Bill (2024), and the Community Development Association Bill (2024), among others.
His impact in education has also drawn praise. According to available records, at least 147 students have received bursaries, while four others were awarded full scholarships through his support. Additionally, he facilitated the distribution of about 250 GCE forms and 150 JAMB forms to students, improving access to higher education.
In terms of economic empowerment, Orekoya has reportedly assisted over 341 constituents with grants, tools, and business support aimed at boosting small-scale enterprises and tackling unemployment. He is also credited with helping 29 individuals secure employment within the Lagos State public service.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Social Development, he has championed youth-focused initiatives, including exchange programmes, the Orekoya Alliance annual sports competition, the Somolu Youth Assembly, and Youth-Police dialogue sessions. These programmes have been described as platforms for mentorship, leadership growth, and community engagement.
Supporters also highlight his role in infrastructure development, noting that he facilitated the rehabilitation and reconstruction of at least ten roads across Somolu, improving transportation and stimulating local economic activity.
With his first term still ongoing, many constituents believe Orekoya has set a strong standard for representation and are calling for continuity, arguing that another term would allow him to build on existing projects and expand his development efforts within the constituency.
