African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has responded sharply to Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following a social media exchange over criticism of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The controversy erupted on Friday, August 14, less than 24 hours before the Osun State governorship election, after Sowore criticised the Adeleke administration and raised concerns about the level of infrastructure development in Osogbo, the state capital.
Davido, who is the governor’s nephew, reacted by describing Sowore as “arindin,” a Yoruba expression commonly used as an insult to describe someone considered foolish.
Sowore subsequently hit back at the singer, directing the insult at Governor Adeleke.
“The real arindin is your uncle, @AAdeleke_01,” Sowore wrote in a post on X.
The AAC candidate went on to question aspects of Adeleke’s educational history and political career, while also criticising the governor’s relationship with President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore alleged that Adeleke’s political decisions were influenced by the desire of the Adeleke family to maintain its influence in Osun State.
However, some of the claims made by Sowore, particularly those concerning Adeleke’s educational history and the alleged influence of family members over the state government, have not been independently established.
The opposition politician also accused political elites of being corrupt, incompetent and disconnected from the interests of ordinary Nigerians, arguing that the electorate would eventually demand a change in the country’s political direction.
Sowore had earlier intensified his criticism of the Osun governor during a television appearance, where he questioned Adeleke’s leadership and alleged that members of the governor’s family played significant roles in the administration.
He also challenged claims about the administration’s infrastructure achievements, saying he had not seen road development on the scale being attributed to the government.
Davido’s intervention subsequently transformed the political criticism into a personal social media confrontation involving two prominent Nigerian figures.
The exchange has generated significant reactions online, with social media users divided between supporters of Governor Adeleke and those backing Sowore’s criticisms.
The development comes as Osun residents prepare to vote in the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Adeleke among the candidates seeking another term in office.
The growing tension has added a personal dimension to an already competitive election, with the final hours of campaigning dominated by arguments over governance, political influence, development and the future leadership of the state.
