President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the arrest of one Prince George Buchi Nwabueze and directed the suspension of three Permanent Secretaries following fresh revelations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of another fake agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The ICPC disclosed that the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office had been operating inside the SGF office without presidential authorisation, allegedly allocated space within the complex under false pretences.
ICPC Chairman Briefs State House Correspondents
ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu, made this known on Friday while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said the discovery was made in the course of the commission’s ongoing investigation into the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and lapses in government administrative processes that allowed such agencies to thrive undetected.
Aliyu identified Nwabueze as the alleged promoter behind the bogus office, adding that suspected collaborators within the SGF’s office may have aided its operations.
Tinubu Orders Arrest, Suspensions
Reacting to the briefing, President Tinubu directed the immediate arrest of Nwabueze and suspended three Permanent Secretaries implicated in the matter. They are M. S. Danjuma, Engineer Nadungu Gagare, and Richard P. Pheelangwah.
The President also ordered a forensic audit of government processes to forestall a recurrence of such abuses across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
The ICPC said investigations into the matter are ongoing, with more details expected as the probe progresses.
