President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday to perform the Islamic pilgrimage of Umrah and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and development.
The Presidency announced the planned trip, explaining that it would provide the president with an opportunity for spiritual reflection and prayers for the country and its citizens.
According to the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah while seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria.
The visit comes as the country continues to face security challenges, economic difficulties and public concerns over the rising cost of living. The Federal Government has continued to face calls to address these challenges and improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
Before departing Abuja for Saudi Arabia, Tinubu is expected to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations. The commissioning will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Onanuga disclosed that the president is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.
The planned journey comes weeks after Tinubu returned to Nigeria from a four-week vacation in Europe.
The president arrived in Lagos from Paris, France, on September 29, following a vacation that began on August 30.
Upon his return, Tinubu dismissed concerns about his health and maintained that he was ready to resume his official duties.
Speaking to reporters at the time, he said he was healthy and prepared to continue working, describing reports questioning his health as rumours associated with politics.
Tinubu’s forthcoming visit to Mecca is expected to focus on religious observances and prayers for Nigeria as his administration continues to address the country’s political, economic and security challenges.
