Media personality Toke Makinwa has advised women to prioritise emotional maturity over pride when choosing who to marry.
In an Instagram story post, the on-air personality said a man’s conduct after a disagreement reveals a lot about his true character, and urged women to watch out for partners who let arguments create distance or silence.
She said the right partner should instead be one who reaches out after a quarrel, checks on his partner, and works through disagreements with care rather than withdrawing.
For Makinwa, qualities like empathy, understanding and open communication should count for more than ego in a lasting relationship. She added that a man who can listen, own up to his mistakes, and repair misunderstandings makes a better life partner than one who avoids responsibility when conflict arises.
She wrote: “Marry the man who calls you after an argument just to make sure you’re okay. Not the one who leaves you alone with your tears. Choose the man who stays when things get hard and wants to understand you, not defeat you. A man who can pause, hold you, and say ‘I’m sorry’ because your relationship matters more to him than his ego.”
