Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued the Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris, who was abducted from his residence weeks ago.
An AK-47 rifle, mobile phones, and other exhibits linked to the kidnapping were recovered from the suspects.
Prince Idris was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. when gunmen invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni ordered the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams immediately after the abduction was reported. Sustained pressure on the gang forced them to release the prince unharmed on July 3, 2026.
After his release, police intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers. Acting on intelligence, operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis, where the suspects opened fire on sighting the police. In the ensuing gun battle, two kidnappers were killed while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
A search of the deceased suspects turned up an AK-47 with an empty magazine, two phones, a bag suspected to have been used for ransom collection, and other exhibits. Their bodies have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, while police continue to pursue the fleeing gang members.
Commissioner Ojajuni commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible, timely information with police to support ongoing efforts to secure lives and property.
