The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has named 124 Nigerians among foreign nationals slated for deportation over criminal convictions.
In a statement published Wednesday, DHS said the individuals were captured on its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal register, alongside their names and photographs. No timeline was given for the deportations.
The statement said the affected individuals were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of directives issued by President Donald Trump, though it did not disclose details of their specific offences beyond describing them as “serious crimes.”
DHS said the exercise forms part of the administration’s mass deportation drive targeting convicted criminal aliens first.
“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of worst criminal aliens arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Under DHS leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst,” the statement read.
Among those listed for deportation are Sunday Adediora, Mkpouto Etukudoh, Marcus Unigwe, Olaniyi Ojikutu, Ejike Asiegbunam, Chibundu Anuebunwa, Usman Momoh, Bolarinwa Salau, Olaniyi Akintuyi, Talatu Dada, Abayomi Daramola, Isaiah Okere, Kingsley Ariegwe, Adeyinka Ademokunla, Olamide Adedipe, Kenneth Unanka, Oluwafemi Orimolade, Uche Diuno, Chinonso Ochie, Aishatu Umaru, Okechukwu Okoronkwo, Kamaludeen Giwa, Kingsley Ibhadore, Peter Equere, Bernard Ogie Oretekor, Chukwuemeka Okorie, Elizabeth Miller, Adetunji Olofinlade, Elizabeth Adeshewo, and Chibuzo Nwaonu, among many others named in the full list.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of U.S. immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has ramped up deportation operations targeting foreign nationals with criminal records.
