The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates across Nigeria and selected West African countries.
The examination body announced the release of the results on Wednesday through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, directing candidates to generate their result-checking PINs on the WAEC portal before accessing their results online.
According to WAEC, candidates are required to generate a serial number and PIN via the official WAEC website before checking their results on the WAEC result portal.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that the council withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent of those who sat for the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE, over allegations of examination malpractice.
Dr. Dangut revealed that 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually took part.
He further disclosed that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 percent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
In addition, 1,687,378 candidates (86.50 percent) earned credits in five or more subjects, irrespective of whether they passed English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC noted that the percentage of candidates who obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics, recorded a slight decline of 1.42 percentage points compared to the 2025 examination.
A breakdown of the successful candidates shows that 558,883 males (28.65 percent) and 641,631 females (32.89 percent) achieved the benchmark of five credits, including English and Mathematics.
Overall, female candidates accounted for 997,267 (51.12 percent) of those who sat for the examination, while 953,459 males (48.88 percent) participated.
The council also stated that 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 percent, have had their results fully processed and released. However, the results of 116,031 candidates (5.95 percent) are still undergoing processing and will be released once the exercise is completed.
How to Check the 2026 WAEC Result
Candidates who wish to check their results should first generate their serial number and PIN by following these steps:
- Visit the WAEC official website and select the “Serial Number and PIN” option.
- Choose the appropriate examination year and examination type (diet).
- Enter your examination number and the same National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration.
- Provide your email address and phone number to receive a One-Time Password (OTP).
- Enter the OTP to generate your serial number and PIN.
- Use the generated details to check your result on the WAEC result-checking portal.
WAEC also stated that candidates can download their digital WAEC ID cards directly to their mobile devices through the portal.
