The United States Embassy in Abuja and the United States Consulate General in Lagos have announced the remaining public holidays during which routine services will be suspended in 2026.
According to the schedule released by the US diplomatic missions, both offices will observe eight public holidays between August and December, affecting regular consular and administrative services, including visa appointments, passport processing, and notarial services.
The first closure will take place on Tuesday, August 25, in observance of Eid-El-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria.
The missions will also be closed on Monday, September 7, to commemorate Labour Day in the United States, while services will again be suspended on Thursday, October 1, as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Day.
Another closure is scheduled for Monday, October 12, in observance of Columbus Day in the United States.
In November, the embassy and consulate will remain closed on Wednesday, November 11, to mark Veterans Day, and again on Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving Day.
For the Christmas season, both missions will suspend routine operations on Friday, December 25, in celebration of Christmas Day, a public holiday observed in both Nigeria and the United States.
The final holiday closure for the year will be on Saturday, December 26, in observance of Boxing Day, which is recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria.
The US missions advised individuals planning to apply for visas or seek passport, notarial, or other consular services to schedule their appointments with the holiday calendar in mind, as routine public services will not be available on the listed dates.
However, the embassy assured that emergency assistance for American citizens will continue to be available throughout the holiday periods.
