The lawmaker representing Barkin Ladi Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Dickson Chollom, has declared that the term “unknown gunmen” should no longer be used to describe recent attacks in the area, insisting that those responsible are now known.
Chollom made this statement during a visit to Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where he met with residents to offer condolences and assess the aftermath of a recent attack that left three people dead and one person seriously injured.
The victims of the attack were identified as Marvin Choji, 23; Bitrus Choji, 24; and Daniel Dung, 59, while Stephen Davou, 48, sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to a statement released by his Senior Strategic Media and Communication Adviser, George Lambert, security operatives have already apprehended one suspect connected to the incident. The suspect is said to have provided valuable information about others involved in the attack.
Speaking on the development, Chollom stated that continuing to refer to the perpetrators as “unknown gunmen” is no longer accurate.
“One of those responsible has been arrested and has revealed details about his accomplices. We can no longer describe them as unknown,” he said.
The lawmaker called on security agencies to ensure transparency by disclosing the outcomes of their investigations, including the identities of other suspects and details of their detention.
He also urged the Plateau State Commissioner of Justice to take charge of the case and ensure that all those implicated are prosecuted diligently.
Chollom emphasized the need for accountability, noting that residents of Barkin Ladi and Plateau State deserve justice and clarity on the matter.
“This is not business as usual. The public deserves to know the truth, and those responsible must be brought to justice,” he added.
