Zenith Bank Plc has retained its title as Africa’s Best Bank and Nigeria’s Best Bank for the second year running, picking up the honours at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026 held in London.
The awards recognise the bank’s financial performance, digital innovation, customer service, and contribution to economic development across the continent. Euromoney’s assessment criteria span strategy, profitability, risk management, digital transformation, and stakeholder impact, making it one of the industry’s most closely watched recognitions.
Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, said the awards reflect the confidence customers and stakeholders have placed in the bank. She credited the recognition to the dedication of the bank’s workforce and its drive to build a globally competitive African financial institution, adding that the honours would spur the bank to deepen financial inclusion, deliver more value to customers, and support business growth across Africa.
Umeoji also thanked regulators in the countries where Zenith Bank operates for creating an enabling environment, and dedicated the awards to the bank’s founder, Jim Ovia, for laying the foundation that continues to drive the institution’s success.
The bank posted strong numbers in the 2025 financial year, with gross earnings of N4.19 trillion and profit after tax of N1.04 trillion. Its non-performing loan ratio also improved, falling to 3.8 per cent from 4.7 per cent.
The latest wins add to a growing list of international recognitions for Zenith Bank, including its 17th consecutive year as Nigeria’s number one bank by Tier-1 Capital in The Banker’s 2026 Top 1000 World Banks ranking.
