Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Monday for the continuation of his corruption trial.
El-Rufai got to the court premises around 9:30 a.m., accompanied by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The former governor is being prosecuted by the ICPC over allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and financial misconduct during his time as governor. Prosecutors claim that funds were improperly released for projects that were either abandoned or poorly managed.
El-Rufai has denied all the charges against him and insists he is innocent.
At Monday’s sitting, the court is expected to continue hearing motions and arguments from both the prosecution and the defence as the trial progresses.
On April 14, 2026, the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of ₦200 million, with conditions including two sureties — one a serving or retired civil servant of Grade Level 15, and the other a recognised traditional ruler.
Although El-Rufai’s lawyers had applied for a variation of the bail conditions, a Kaduna State High Court presided over by Justice Darius Khobo repeatedly turned down the request, citing concerns that his influence could affect ongoing investigations into the corruption allegations.
In a related development, Muyiwa Adekeye, media aide to El-Rufai, recently accused the ICPC of denying the former governor access to medical treatment despite his complaints of a worsening eye condition.
