The Federal Government on Monday arraigned more than 400 terrorism suspects before various divisions of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The arraignments are part of ongoing mass trials targeting individuals linked to terrorism, financing of terrorism, and aiding insurgent activities.
The prosecution is led by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), supported by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).
A special panel of judges, constituted by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, is presiding over the cases. The Legal Aid Council of Nigeria is providing defence for indigent suspects.
The mass trials, which began in April, form part of government efforts to fast-track terrorism cases previously delayed at the military facility in Kainji, Niger State. According to Fagbemi, the broader exercise covers about 500 suspects.
