The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has raised the alarm over the abduction of a primary school headmaster in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, demanding his immediate rescue.
NUT Chairman Fatai Hassan and Secretary Salami Olukayode made the appeal in a statement issued to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday.
The union named the victim as M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye. Gunmen abducted him while he worked on his farm at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The union’s Itesiwaju Local Government branch first raised the alarm, sending an urgent report to state leadership.
NUT called the incident disturbing, warning that it underscores the growing security threats facing teachers and other education workers nationwide.
It urged the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to step up efforts to secure Owoade’s release and tighten security across schools and communities.
The union stood in solidarity with the Owoade family, his colleagues and pupils, and prayed for his safe return.
It also called on its members to stay vigilant given the current security climate, and prayed for God’s protection over all citizens and for Owoade’s safe release.
