Former First Lady Aisha Buhari on Wednesday visited the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja, as political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections gather pace.
Atiku disclosed the visit in a post on his social media platforms, describing the gesture by the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari as warm and deeply appreciated.
Neither Atiku nor Aisha disclosed the purpose of the visit or what was discussed, but the timing has fuelled speculation, coming as political actors position themselves ahead of 2027.
“Today, I was delighted to receive former First Lady, Aisha Buhari. Her visit was warm and deeply appreciated,” Atiku said.
He used the occasion to speak on the economic hardship facing Nigerian households, pointing to the rising cost of food, transportation, education, healthcare and other basic needs, and said the country needed an economy that rewards hard work and creates opportunities for its citizens.
“Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope,” he said.
Atiku added that his goal was to ease the pressure on households and restore hope, under his “Make Nigeria Affordable Again” pledge.
Aisha was accompanied by one of her daughters and some associates during the visit.
