African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has renewed his call on President Bola Tinubu to address longstanding public questions surrounding his age, family background, and educational qualifications.
The former Vice President said Nigerians deserve answers, insisting that genuine leadership demands transparency rather than silence.
In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said leadership goes beyond the exercise of power and must inspire public confidence.
“Leadership is not simply about exercising power. It is about inspiring confidence. Transparency is not a concession to critics; it is an obligation owed to citizens,” the statement read.
Atiku argued that history judges governments not by the scandals that confront them, but by how they respond, stressing that choosing accountability over expediency defines lasting leadership.
Referencing the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), the former Vice President said justice must not be applied selectively. He noted that President Tinubu has an opportunity to prove that no individual is beyond scrutiny and no matter too sensitive for public accountability.
He further pointed to the suspension of a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs over alleged financial impropriety, as well as unresolved questions around transparency at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, including allegations of crude oil theft, refinery rehabilitation spending, procurement irregularities, and budget discrepancies.
Atiku warned that failure to address these issues decisively would reinforce the perception that the government prefers silence to genuine resolution.
“Anything less will only deepen the growing perception that official silence has become this government’s preferred instrument for managing scandals instead of resolving them. History teaches that governments are not destroyed by allegations; they are diminished by their refusal to confront them,” he said.
