Afrobeats heavyweight David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has stepped into the political arena once again this time in an official capacity.
The Grammy-nominated singer has been appointed Head of Youth Mobilisation for the campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking a second term under the Accord Party ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.
Davido broke the news himself on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “I have been appointed by the Governor of OSUN STATE @AAdeleke_01 and flag bearer of the ACCORD PARTY as HEAD YOUTH MOBILIZATION OF CAMPAIGN COUNCIL! We look forward to a smooth campaign and your RE-ELECTION Your Excellency! 4+4.”
The appointment is no surprise to those who have followed the singer’s unwavering support for his uncle’s political journey. The two have maintained a close and visible public alliance through elections and governance activities over the years.
This is not Davido’s first formal role in Osun State affairs. In 2025, he was named Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a position aimed at drawing investment into sports development across the state. His latest title deepens that involvement considerably.
With the Osun governorship election fixed for August 8, 2026, and political parties already in full mobilisation mode, Davido’s entry into the campaign structure is expected to give Governor Adeleke’s re-election push a significant boost — particularly among Nigeria’s vast and vocal youth population, as well as Davido’s enormous fanbase in the diaspora.
