Suspected terrorists have killed at least seven people and abducted several others after attacking two churches in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during Easter celebrations.
The early Sunday morning нападение caused panic as gunmen stormed the area while worshippers were gathered for church services.
The councillor representing Awon Ward, Mark Bawa, confirmed the incident, saying he was heading to the community to verify the exact number of casualties.
“I’m on my way to get accurate details. Some reports indicate seven deaths, while others suggest eight. I will update once I have confirmed figures,” he said.
He explained that the attackers invaded the community in large numbers, surrounded the area, and opened fire indiscriminately on worshippers before taking several people away.
“The gunmen came in large numbers, encircled the community, and started shooting. Several people were killed, and many others were abducted into the bush,” Bawa stated.
Residents said the attackers operated for a long period without any resistance, raising concerns about the worsening security situation in rural communities.
Bawa attributed the delayed response of security operatives to poor telecommunications in the area, which he said may have hindered residents from alerting authorities on time.
The incident comes barely two months after a similar attack in Kurmin Wali, also in Kachia LGA, where worshippers were abducted during a church gathering in February 2026, sparking widespread outrage and calls for tighter security in Southern Kaduna.
