Ikeja Electric has named Mrs Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, with effect from July 1, 2026, as the company ushers in a new phase of leadership.
The appointment follows the transition of Mrs Folake Soetan, who has led the electricity distribution company since 2020 and will now take on wider strategic responsibilities within Sahara Group’s Power and Upstream businesses.
Board Chairman Kola Adesina paid tribute to Soetan’s six-year tenure, crediting her with reshaping the organisation into a more resilient and customer-focused utility.
“Folake has been instrumental in transforming Ikeja Electric into a more resilient, customer-focused, and performance-driven organisation. Her leadership reflects the very essence of innovation, resilience, and impact,” Adesina said.
Soetan, on her part, described leading the company as an honour and said she looks forward to contributing to Sahara Group’s broader energy vision across Africa.
The board said Onyelucheya’s appointment was driven by her leadership experience, institutional knowledge and strategic clarity. Adesina expressed confidence in her ability to advance the company’s trajectory.
“Ogochukwu brings a compelling blend of leadership experience, strategic clarity, and execution discipline. We are confident in her ability to build on the strong foundation established at Ikeja Electric while driving innovation, efficiency, and customer-centric growth,” he said.
Onyelucheya is a senior corporate executive with over two decades of experience spanning business strategy, financial control and operational growth. She has held senior positions in both the banking and energy sectors, with expertise in process digitisation, revenue assurance and organisational turnaround.
She holds a BSc in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, an MSc in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, and is an alumna of Harvard Business School.
Accepting the role, Onyelucheya pledged to build on existing gains and deepen customer trust.
“Our focus remains on delivering improved service, deepening customer trust, and driving sustainable performance as we continue to create value for all stakeholders,” she said.
Adesina said the transition underscores the company’s commitment to continuity and operational excellence, adding that Ikeja Electric would press on with efforts to improve customer experience and expand energy access.
