The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has shut down four properties in Ikotun and Ajah for unlawfully discharging untreated wastewater into public spaces.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Wednesday and Thursday, affected two residential buildings located at 13 Oritola Street and 1 Temitope Street in the Pipeline area of Ikotun. In Ajah, a public toilet and a mechanic workshop along Badore Road were also sealed for similar environmental violations.
Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said the actions in Ikotun followed several complaints, investigations, and prior warnings issued to the property owners.
He explained that the affected premises were found to be deliberately channeling untreated wastewater through pipes directly onto roads and surrounding areas, creating a public health risk and environmental nuisance.
In Ajah, the sealed facilities were accused of indiscriminately discharging wastewater into public drains and nearby surroundings, in violation of environmental regulations.
Wahab warned that the state’s enforcement drive would continue across Lagos as part of efforts to curb environmental abuse.
He reiterated that residents and property managers must comply with proper wastewater management standards, adding that offenders would face sanctions and possible prosecution under existing environmental laws.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring strict enforcement of environmental regulations across the state.
