On May 14, at Brampton City Centre in Ontario, Canada, Mayor Patrick Brown honoured Chief Mrs. Olajumoke Abegunde for her exceptional contributions to philanthropy, charity, and community development through her Jummy Icare Foundation, based in Nigeria.
The presentation of a certificate of appreciation took place at the Mayor’s office, where officials highlighted the positive impact Abegunde has made in her immediate environment, touching countless lives with compassion and consistency. She has remained true to her vision, believing that cheerful giving and looking out for the downtrodden should never be left to the government alone. This philosophy has driven her to transform lives within her locality and earn international recognition for her passionate charitable work both within and outside Nigeria.
Thousands Benefiting in Ondo State
As founder of the Jummy Icare Foundation, Abegunde has touched countless lives through humanitarian relief and social assistance programs. To date, her foundation has supported over 3,000 vulnerable widows and elderly persons in Ondo State. She has also galvanized support for orphaned and vulnerable children, implemented women’s support programs, and rolled out skills acquisition and income-generating activities for over 5,000 women in the state.
By promoting self-reliance and entrepreneurship, her foundation provides start-up seed capital, empowering women to build sustainable livelihoods.
Youth Development and Community Outreach
A graduate of Criminology and Security Studies from the National Open University of Nigeria, Abegunde is also a proud supporter of youth development initiatives. She has sponsored essay writing and entrepreneurship competitions in Ondo State, along with medical outreaches, orphanage visits, Iftar and Easter entrepreneurship programs, and feeding schemes for the less privileged.
Her guiding philosophy is simple: when those who are well-to-do invest in their immediate society, the community becomes better, safer, and more secure. This belief has driven her to invest heavily in life-changing programmes aimed at lifting all sundry to greater heights.
Expanding Impact to Canada
In a bid to solidify and intensify her efforts for communal development, Abegunde’s foundation collaborated with the Habeeb Okunola Foundation and the MakeMee Elegant Foundation to offer free skills acquisition training to residents of Brampton, Canada. Trainees learned how to produce resin bags, photo books, picture otters, resin key holders, frame holders, ornamental flower vases, rhinestone art, and fabric printing.
Mayor’s Personal Commendation
In recognition of her good works, Mayor Patrick Brown hosted Abegunde and other delegates at his office, where he personally thanked her and expressed deep appreciation for her continuous support to community development. He presented her with a personally signed certificate of appreciation and commendation for her philanthropic work and dedication to fostering entrepreneurship.

While accepting the recognition, Chief Mrs. Olajumoke Abegunde said her commitment to touching lives remains unwavering. She pledged not to relent in ensuring more lives are touched and more support is given to people, particularly in building stability and developing the spirit of entrepreneurship among women and youths.
