NDC chieftain Sergius Ogun has accused President Bola Tinubu of shielding Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila from accountability, insisting that Tinubu bears full responsibility for his aide’s conduct.
Ogun made the remarks during an interview on News Central TV, where he argued that Gbajabiamila’s continued stay in office, despite mounting public criticism, shows the Presidency is comfortable with his performance.
He said no major decision or controversy tied to the Chief of Staff’s office happens without Tinubu’s knowledge, and that the President cannot distance himself from an official he personally appointed.
“He sits there as Chief of Staff. He is only an errand boy. If you have somebody who is your Chief of Staff and anything happens, the buck stops at the table of the President because he is the one that appointed him,” Ogun said.
He contrasted Tinubu’s handling of the matter with how he claimed Labour Party’s Peter Obi would respond, saying Obi would suspend any accused official pending investigation to prove that no one is above the law.
Ogun also faulted the administration for what he called misplaced priorities, arguing that Tinubu is more focused on winning re-election in 2027 than tackling insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship.
“Instead of focusing on how to solve the problems of insecurity, poverty and the economy, they are more interested in how to win another election. You cannot say you inherited a bad economy from Buhari when you were one of the people campaigning for Buhari during his elections,” he said.
He dismissed suggestions that the current economic troubles are solely a hangover from the Buhari administration, pointing out that Tinubu was an active part of that government’s political base.
Ogun added that the NDC has developed an artificial intelligence-based system to monitor elections nationwide, which he said would allow Nigerians to know results within hours of voting and curb manipulation.
“Tinubu has spent more time thinking about 2027 than fixing the problems Nigerians are facing. We have built a system that will monitor elections across the country. With artificial intelligence, Nigerians will know the real results within hours after voting,” he said.
