The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and public trust by strengthening the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU), urging Nigerians to use the channel to report officers who engage in misconduct or unprofessional behaviour.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, made this known at an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. A statement from Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid confirmed the details on Thursday.
The IGP said the CRU operates around the clock, giving members of the public a direct platform to report extortion, abuse of office, human rights violations, and other unethical conduct by police personnel.
Disu described accountability as a cornerstone of the ongoing reforms within the force, assuring citizens that complaints lodged through the unit would receive prompt attention and appropriate action.
He also called on Nigerians to make responsible use of the available complaint channels, noting that public cooperation is essential to building a more transparent and people-focused police institution.
The Force further guaranteed that all reports submitted through the CRU would be handled with confidentiality, and that officers found culpable following investigations would face disciplinary measures. It reiterated its resolve to strengthen institutional integrity through transparency and respect for the rule of law.
