Supporters of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have launched a new political pressure group, the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement, as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group, unveiled in Abuja on Monday, said it has already built structures across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Its National Publicity Secretary, Justin Ijeh, disclosed that coordinators have been appointed at both state and zonal levels to drive mobilisation efforts nationwide.
According to Ijeh, the movement brings together members from the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People’s Party, and the African Democratic Congress, positioning itself as a broad coalition within the opposition space.
The emergence of the group signals fresh realignments among opposition figures, particularly as aspirants begin to position themselves for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the next general elections.
Observers note that the OK Movement appears to adopt a grassroots mobilisation model similar to the Obidient Movement, which gained significant traction during the 2023 elections.
Speaking during the launch, Ijeh said the initiative was driven by concerns over Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges, including rising living costs and insecurity.
He described the movement as a nationwide platform aimed at driving systemic reform and national renewal, while emphasizing its commitment to unity and inclusiveness.
“The movement is open to all Nigerians and rejects divisive politics based on ethnicity, region, or religion,” he said.
Ijeh added that the formal inauguration of state chapters will begin in the coming weeks, marking the next phase of its nationwide rollout.
Reacting to the development, Obidient Movement National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said the new group complements existing structures supporting Obi, stressing that there is no internal division among supporters.
He noted that both the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement and other affiliated groups share a common goal of advancing political change in the country.
