Since his loss in the 2023 general election, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been struggling to keep his political dynasty and structure intact. What further posed a major threat to his political family was the defection of Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This defection has caused a huge crack in Omo-Agege’s political household and has seriously marred his political trajectory and future in the state.
As the leader of the former opposition in Delta State, Governor Oborevwori’s defection despite Omo-Agege’s opposition to it has now made the governor a dominant leader of the APC in the state. This development has also put Omo-Agege’s political future within the APC at a halt. Senator Ovie, who was thinking of running again on the platform of the APC for the 2027 election, may now see that ambition hit the rocks. Despite all odds against him, he has been fighting tooth and nail to ensure his political footprint does not die in Delta State.
According to sources, he is currently in the eye of the storm. The party leadership is looking to compensate him with the senatorial ticket to return to the Senate to represent Delta Central in the Red Chambers. But while this plan is ongoing, some stakeholders are against the move, claiming that the ticket should not be used as a compensation tool for the former Deputy Senate President of the 9th Assembly. Many have termed the arrangement an imposition of Senator Ovie as the party’s flagbearer. Instead of imposition and compensation, many have disclosed that the ticket should be thrown open for a contest to allow free, fair, and credible primaries where every candidate would test their popularity.
Sources further reveal that Omo-Agege is currently looking for a way to sustain his political legacies, and the only way that can be done is for him to secure a political office. Such an office would solidify his base and also prepare him ahead of the 2031 election.
