The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched its nationwide screening exercise for aspirants seeking to contest the 2027 general elections under its platform.
The exercise, which began on Tuesday, covers candidates vying for legislative, governorship, and presidential tickets. While screening of senatorial, federal, and state assembly hopefuls is being conducted at designated centres across the country, presidential and governorship aspirants are being screened at the national level in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
In an official statement, the party described the development as the formal commencement of its screening process for all aspirants seeking to fly its flag in both executive and legislative positions come 2027.
The exercise follows an earlier announcement by the PDP faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, which disclosed that a total of 3,181 aspirants would be screened ahead of the elections. A breakdown of the figure shows 2,122 aspirants for state Houses of Assembly seats, 748 for the House of Representatives, 198 for the Senate, 112 for governorship positions, and one presidential aspirant.
The faction made this known in a statement published on its official X account, alongside the announcement of newly constituted screening committees and appeal panels.
The move aligns with the timetable and schedule of activities approved for the 2027 general elections by the party’s National Executive Committee at its 104th meeting, as directed by the Interim National Working Committee.
