President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday met with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting focused on the management and disposal of properties seized by the anti-graft agency across the country.
According to a statement issued by the State House media office on Tuesday night, the discussions centred on ensuring transparency and accountability in the handling and disposal of the seized properties.
The statement said Olukoyede and Darma met with President Tinubu to discuss the management and disposal of seized houses nationwide in line with transparency and accountability requirements.
The meeting came shortly after President Tinubu intervened in the dispute between the EFCC and the Osun State Government over the freezing of the state’s accounts.
The EFCC had obtained an order to freeze Osun State Government accounts on August 5, ahead of the state’s governorship election. The commission said the action was linked to an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of ecology funds, intervention funds and allocations received from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).
The funds under investigation were reportedly valued at about ₦11 billion.
The Osun State Government subsequently approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to overturn the freezing order and award ₦2 billion in exemplary damages. The state also accused the EFCC of conducting an unsubstantiated witch-hunt against it since March.
However, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the election, the governor said he had directed the state’s Attorney General to withdraw the suit against the EFCC.
Adeleke, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, credited President Tinubu’s intervention with helping to resolve the dispute.
He said, “I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?”
