The US Mission in Nigeria has warned passport applicants against submitting AI-generated or digitally edited photographs, saying such images will be rejected.
In a notice posted on its official X account on Friday, the mission said passport photos must be genuine, recent and an accurate reflection of the applicant’s current appearance.
“Reminder! Do NOT use AI or digital editing tools on your passport photo. We will not accept photos that are edited or filtered,” the mission wrote.
The photo must have been taken within the last six months and should closely resemble the applicant to allow easy identification by US border officials.
“Your photo should be recent (taken within the past six months) and look like you (the TSA or CBP agent must be able to tell it’s you),” the mission said.
It warned that submitting a digitally enhanced photo would significantly delay processing.
“Submitting a digitally enhanced photo will significantly delay your application.”
The mission directed applicants to the US Department of State’s passport photo guidelines for further details on the required standards.
