Nigerian singer Brymo has called on some of the country’s biggest music stars to step back from the spotlight and create room for younger talents to lead the industry.
Naija News reports that the singer made the comments during a recent interview on TVC, where he addressed the current state of Nigerian music and the continued dominance of a few established names.
According to him, industry conversations keep circling back to top stars like Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, leaving younger artistes who should be driving the pop scene without the attention they deserve.
Brymo argued that the long-running “Big 3” narrative has kept the spotlight fixed on a small circle of artistes, making it difficult for newer acts to gain the recognition they have earned.
He said the conversation should move away from criticizing younger singers for lacking lyrical depth, and instead focus on how some veterans continue to dominate public discourse in the industry.
He said, “We need to stop talking about how the new artists don’t have lyrical substance and focus on how some artists want to lock down the industry for themselves with the ‘Big 3’ narrative and continue reigning forever.
“They should shift aside. Right now, Rema should be the biggest pop star in the country without any doubt. All this talk about Wizkid, 2Face, Olamide, Burna Boy. Why? In the Pop scene?? Wetin dem dey sing? You can plug the radio but nobody likes your stuff anymore. Move aside, evolve.”
