A 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to 100 years in prison in Indiana, US, for his role in a gang shooting that killed a woman and wounded two others in 2025.
Jo’Majze Larry of Anderson, Indiana, was sentenced on Wednesday by Madison County Circuit Court Judge David Happe.
Larry was one of four members of the Mickey Cobra Nation gang charged in the murder of 26-year-old Dayla Swain, who was shot dead on February 2, 2025, outside Sonny Ray’s nightclub in Anderson, a suburb of Indianapolis.
Prosecutors said the shooting was a botched attempt to kill a witness in another homicide case. Swain was not the intended target. Two other women were also hurt in the attack — one by gunfire, another struck by a fleeing vehicle.
A jury convicted Larry and 19-year-old Rashawn Samuels on June 30. Both later admitted to a criminal organisation enhancement charge.
Happe gave Larry 50 years for murder and 50 years for the gang enhancement, totalling 100 years. Samuels got 125 years — 62 and a half years each for murder and the enhancement.
Prosecutors said Indiana law treats gang-linked crime more severely because such organisations coordinate offences and recruit others into crime, often for financial gain.
Both Larry and Samuels were also convicted of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
A third defendant, 19-year-old Kyree Craver, was convicted of Swain’s murder in a separate trial and sentenced to 90 years on July 9. A fourth suspect is still awaiting trial.
Investigators linked the shooting to the 2023 killing of 15-year-old Jullian Craig during an armed robbery. That case allegedly pushed Larry, Samuels and others to plan the murder of a witness — a plot that went wrong and killed Swain instead. Donavan Harris, 20, was convicted of Craig’s murder in June.
Because Larry was 15 at the time of the killing, Indiana law entitles him to seek a judicial review of his sentence after serving at least 20 years, without needing the prosecutor’s consent — meaning the 100-year term could eventually be revisited.
