The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated one of its pioneering officers, Superintendent Nafisat Balogun, after she successfully obtained a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada.
According to the statement, Balogun—who holds the distinction of being the first female pilot in the service—was recently honoured at a ceremony organised by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service in recognition of her latest achievement.
Maiwada described her accomplishment as a landmark moment, noting that her career progression reflects discipline, resilience, and a commitment to excellence in a profession largely dominated by men.
He said her success should motivate other officers within the service to pursue professional development and take advantage of available training opportunities.
The Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service, Captain Kuhi Mbaya, also praised Balogun’s journey, describing it as both inspiring and transformational.
He said her progression from cabin crew member to fully certified commercial pilot demonstrates both personal determination and institutional backing.
“For the first time, we now have a female pilot in the NCS. She has set a record, and it is important that we celebrate and recognise this milestone,” Mbaya said.
He further encouraged women to pursue careers in specialised and technical fields, stressing that determination and consistency can break barriers.
“This achievement shows that there are no limits. The glass ceiling has been shattered,” he added.
Mbaya also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for supporting gender inclusion and professional development within the service.
In her remarks, Balogun expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Customs Service for its support, pledging continued dedication to duty and professionalism.
Balogun first made history in 2024 when she emerged as the first female pilot in the NCS. Her latest certification has further strengthened her reputation as a trailblazer within the agency.
