President Bola Tinubu on Sunday received two Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftains, Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau led the two Kano State politicians to the meeting, amid reports they are set to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hanga and Gaya are considering the move after losing out politically under the NDC. Hanga, a former senator, lost the Kano Central senatorial ticket and a bid for the deputy governorship slot. He is said to be exiting the party after failing to secure any position from NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Gaya contested the Kano South senatorial seat under the NDC but lost out after a consensus candidate emerged from Kwankwaso’s camp.
APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda met the two politicians before Sunday’s Villa meeting, which is being read as a further signal of their pending defection.
Hanga and Gaya are expected to formally announce their move to the APC next week.
